Yoga, derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’, which means ‘to unite’, suggests that the ego and the greater self, or ultimate universal spirit, are one and the same. Relief from pain and a route to self-realization are provided by this spiritual and physical practice, which promotes the unification of body and mind (Anand, 1980). Beyond the parameters of rationality and the senses, a person who learns mental, intellectual, and ego control and maintains inner centre finds a deep sense of fulfilment and tranquillity.
