Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Context of India

In India, social entrepreneurship has emerged as an effective and transformative framework to address complex social, economic, and environmental challenges. By combining a commitment to social welfare with an innovative business-oriented approach, social ventures have played a significant role in advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).This research thesis explores the deep interconnection between social entrepreneurship and SDGs within the Indian context. It particularly highlights how mission-driven initiatives, especially in marginalized regions, contribute to inclusive and sustainable development. Through regional studies and case analyses, the research uncovers the concrete contributions of social enterprises in areas such as teacher education, healthcare, clean energy, gender equality, and rural development. Furthermore, the study delves into strategic frameworks, institutional mechanisms, and the challenges faced by social entrepreneurs—including funding shortages, regulatory ambiguities, and inadequate tools for impact measurement. Ultimately, the dissertation proposes key policy recommendations and strategic solutions to enhance social entrepreneurial capacity in India. These measures aim to accelerate and strengthen the nation’s progress toward achieving the SDGs by 2030.
