In the process of economic development, urban areas are developing, but rural areas are lagging behind in terms of development. The people of rural areas are still facing many economic and social problems. Agricultural productivity is decreasing day by day. The main occupation of rural areas is agriculture and the livelihood of most of the rural people depends on this agricultural occupation. Therefore, there is an urgent need to focus on the development of this agriculture and make efforts to increase the income of farmers. Roads are needed in rural areas to transport agricultural products to the market, to get the right price for the farmers’ products, and to transport perishable goods to the market on time. However, since many villages in rural areas do not have roads, the people of those villages are facing many problems such as bringing necessary materials for agriculture or transporting farm products to the market. In view of the above situation, the government has launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sandak Yojana’ from 25th December 2000. The main objective of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sandak Yojana is to connect the villages and settlements in rural areas that are still not connected by perennial roads to the main road by constructing perennial roads. The roads constructed under this scheme play an important role in ensuring that agricultural produce reaches the market and gets a fair price for the produce. The timely availability of inputs for agriculture has helped in increasing agricultural productivity.
