Confessional poetry primarily deals with the personal life and experiences of the poet. It aims at exploring the inner life and psyche of the poet. Introspection, self-analysis and selfrevelation can be identified as the main features of the confessional poetry. Kamal Das, who is the pivot of this research paper can be labelled as a confessional poet. In this paper, an attempt is made highlight the features which makes her a confessional poet. Most of Das’ poems seem to have a cathartic effect on the poet which brings relief to her as she has to deal with suppression because of her gender. The use of powerful imagery to express her feelings brings out the subtlety of her character. The felicity with which she portrays her private life in her poems is also noteworthy; and an attempt has been made to bring this too in focus.
