Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve laid the foundation for the spread of women's education in Maharashtra under extremely adverse conditions. He started the work of saving women from a widow. Not only that, but he was also a great sculptor of the social history of Maharashtra ”.Although Maharshi Karve was initially despised by society, people later misunderstood the true value of his work. The general public also took note of his work and gave him due to praise. The universities of Banaras (1942) and Pune (1951) awarded him D.A. Lit. He was honoured with this honorary degree.
