The Red Army was formed on 13 April 1939 in Nagpur against the backdrop of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar on 13 April 1919. In the establishment of Lal Sena in Nagpur, Maganlal Bagdi, Shyamnarayan Kashmiri, Shamlal Srivas, Achaye Vs. C. Dandekar, Kisanlal Choudhary Adv. Bhaskarrao Chavre, Ramchandra Manchalwar, etc have played an important role. ‘The Forward Block’ formed by Subhash Chandra Bose and the Red Army had the same objectives. Due to the "Quit India’ movement of 1942, Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned in theAgaKhanPalacein Pune. At the sametime, manyleaderswerearrested and put in the jail in theAhmednagar fort that made the movement leaderless. At that time, Mahatma Gandhi's motto ‘Do or die’ was accepted by Hindustani Lalsena and Krishnarao Kakade was sacrificed for waging an armed revolution against the British Empire. Shankar Mahale was hanged while Dajiba Mahale was martyred. With the overwhelming support of the people of Nagpur for Lalsena, Lalasena carried out revolutionary activities in the independence movement in such a waythattheBritish cametopower.
