The condition of the villages was better before the arrival of the British in India, so the villages were self-sufficient. But, with the arrival of the British, the appearance of the villages gradually began to change. Significantly, the rural republic came to an end. Trade, business, the media, religiosity, family practices all seem to have changed. Village reconstruction began after India gained independence. Mahatma Gandhiji's concept of 'Sarvodaya’ reached every village. The five year plan for Rural Development was introduced. The Community Development plan in 1952 and the Extension Education plan in 1953 were introduced. Many important changes took place in health, education, entertainment, transportation, communication, agriculture as a result of westernization and modernization reached the village. Thus the whole structure of rural society seems to have changed as social, cultural, political, educational, health, economic, family changes have taken place in rural areas.
