Glimpses of feminism in the writings of ismat chugtai

Ismat Chugtai, a renowned Urdu writer had an indomitable spirit and nurtured fierce feminist ideology. In the twentieth century Urdu literature she is known for the revolutionary feminist politics and aesthetics. She came down heavily on feudalism, dominant feudal patriarchy and double standards in the society. Her protagonists have been more than ordinary. Her outspoken approach and rebellious themes have shaken the minds of the readers. Though she was a member of the Progressive Writers' Movement in India, she always criticized the orthodox and inflexible attitude of the society. She completed B. A., followed by B. Ed and became the first Muslim woman to have acquired both the degrees. Her natural instinct to anything accepted as a social norm was of opposition. She never wanted to be a shy traditional wife.
