Abstract

Mr. Nirad Chandra Chaudhuri contributed a major role as a unique prose writer in the contemporary Indian writing in English. He has given a refreshing dimension to Indian English Prose. His prose style is coloured and conditioned by his satiric vision of life. He has the courage to swim against the tide of expected value. Thus, caustic historian and autobiographer Mr. Nirad. C. Chaudhuri has thought about Indian history deeply and developed in due course his own theory of history. During the Hindu, the Mohammedan and the British periods of Indian History, in affiliation with Europian history, socio-cultural transformation took place in Indian society.

Mr. Chaudhuri offers a striking contrast to the perspectives of reputed historians. He divides Indian History into Indo-Aryan, Indo-Muslim and Indo-British segments. Mr. Chaudhuri asserted that Indian history stands for India? s successive affiliation with some of the greatest movements in world history. Renowned historians have specified the trends and perspectives of Indian history in these three phases. Their opinions can be compared with those of Mr. Chaudhuri and it can be pointed out that the views put forth by Mr. Chaudhuri are far from fact.Whatever may be the tall promises and views of Mr. Chaudhuri have put forward in respect of objective method; he exposed purely personal side.
