When Raghuji III died in Nagpur on 11 December 1853 at the age of 47, Resident Mansell took over the reins of government, seizing and seal mortab the treasures. Mansell sent the report on 14 December 1853, advising the state to be abolished. The then Governor-General Lord Dalhousie recommended that the State of Nagpur be annexed to the British. Accordingly, Nagpur State became Khalsa and became the Resident Chief Commissioner and took charge of Nagpur State. On 12 March 1854, Nagpur was annexed by the British and the issue of deliberate adoption was put on hold. Shortly after Bakabai’s death, on October 10, 1861, Janozis recognized Raghuji III as his adopted son and bestowed the honour ‘Raja Offer Deor’. Janoji belongs to the Ahirrao family and is the son of Raghuji’s third niece Mainabai (Gujar family). His father’s name was Nana Ahirrao. Janoji’s wife Anjirabai is the daughter of Shirke and her son is the fourth Raghuji. He was born on 19 November 1872. Janoji died on December 5, 1881 at the age of 47. Since Raghuji was ignorant at that time, the entire estate was with the Court of Wards. On April 1, 1882, at the age of ten, Raghuji was conferred the title of ‘Raje Bahadur of Deur’ and Larry Saheb, Registrar of the High Court, was appointed in-charge of the Court of Wards, and Mr. Hari Mahadev Pandit, Headmaster of CT School, was appointed as his caretaker.
