Abstract

This paper is an appraisal of the Nigerian Civil Service. It is theoretically predicated on the writings on bureaucracy of Max Weber and seeks to analyze an aspect of the bureaucratic organization – political neutrality in Nigeria in terms of an ideal – rational type bureaucracy. Specific case is made of the defunct Bendel State Civil Service which has now been split into Edo and Delta States Civil Services respectively. The study concludes that the Nigerian Civil Service in response to the Weberian model, would require a new wave of orientation in terms of time, human and material resources.
