The present article analyses the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Guarantee Act – 2005 in the context of a district (Sirsa) in Haryana State. The article bases itself on the primary as well as secondary sources of data collected for the purpose of the study. The article brings out the major weaknesses of the MNREGA and also offers suggestions for correcting such weaknesses. It is an area specific study, but could help further probe in the particular field.
