Abstract

Democracy in India has completed more than 60 years. This period is sufficient to evaluate the working of any system. India is the largest democracy of the world, in terms of population,, but it is matter of analysis where India stands in terms of merit. If we compare the constitutions of different countries, Indian constitution appears to be one of the best. But, in reality, many factors hinders to be the best. So this paper tries to find out what are these factors and what is their behavior. The data for analysis is collected from the election commission and electronic media. The analysis shows that there is a Low turnout in elections, corruption, criminalisation of politics, ridiculous alliances, use of money and muscle power, etc., are adversely affecting on the strength of democracy. The behavior of these factors which is presented in this paper shows the actual health of democracy in India.
