This paper is related to Digital Media and Governance with special reference to India. There is no ambiguity about the fact that digital media are the media of the future. They are an indispensable tool in the hands of modern “welfare states” to further the development work in their countries. In this paper, we would throw light on the ways in which digital media can be used to advance the developmental objectives of a welfare state. Paper will highlight the importance of digital media in taking the government to the doorstep of every citizen. We will also enumerate the obstacles in the path of true democratisation of the digital media and ways in which those obstacles can be removed. Paper shall also be dealing in brief with the problems concerning reach, access, exposure and effectiveness of digital media in the context of a developing country with special reference to India. E-governance is concerned not only with the computerisation of government departments but also with a holistic approach to develop citizencentric institutions and inculcating the attributes of transparency and easy accessibility in the system.
