Democracy is universally accepted as the best form of the government. In its traditional forms, it was known as an elected government directly or indirectly with the basic feature of adult franchise, liberty, equality and property, justice-civil, political, social and economic, rule of law, independent judiciary, press, speech, etc. With its traditional characteristics, it also incorporates all these characteristics as participation, responsiveness, accountability, decentralisation, effectiveness and transparency etc. Success of democracy as a form of government depends upon its administration, as the policies formulated by the government are implemented by the administrative machinery. In this research paper, an attempt has been made to examine and evaluate the present administrative machinery in the Indian democratic context.
