New Environmental Challenges in Bangladesh: Dominance of Business Groups in National Politics

The environment of Bangladesh has been deteriorating rapidly during the last couple of years. Recently, the nexus between politicians and owners of industries and factories has acted as a factor for environmental pollution and degradation. Their initiatives have already produced some negative results. The situation is expected to be worsening further with the increase of economic development and nexus between politicians and businessmen. There is an urgent need to address these concerns and issues in an effective manner. This paper aims at giving a close look at their activities in environmental issues. The study attempts to explore the existing consequences of their relationship in environmental issues. The study also identifies the major causes behind the relationship between politicians and business groups and provides the possible way-out to reduce environmental degradation and pollution.
