The study analyses the implementation challenges of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Nigeria with a view to preventing similar challenges from undermining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study used secondary data vis-a-vis the official end reports of the SDG's programm e by the Federal Government of Nigeria; and the United Nations; other related documents used include literatures on the subject matter; internet sources and authors’ personal observation. The study revealed that by the end of 20’5 which was the targeted year set for the full implementation of the MDGs programme, there was insignificant reduction in poverty; hunger and malnutrition bitten harder; unemployment kept on rising; maternal deaths stayed on; poor access to sanitation persisted; while the nation groaned under heavy debt burden all attributable to distortion in governance. All these portend danger to the achievement of the SDGs. The study therefore, concluded that, unless good governance is practised in Nigeria, the successful implementation of SDGs may be a mirage.
