Abstract

In the modern world, ICT is recognized as a powerful tool for socio-economic growth, while urbanization is a growing phenomenon in Bangladesh. The growing population and poor transportation system make it difficult to develop a green city in Bangladesh. These make it difficult to provide broadband connectivity that is available and affordable to all to reduce congestion, air pollution and asset depletion. So, we need to be more pragmatic and focus on addressing these challenges. The study “Green City Development: Readiness and Challenges of Bangladesh Government” provides insights into the ongoing process of formulating green city initiatives in Bangladesh and the challenges faced by the government. The government of Bangladesh has already taken many initiatives to make the cities sustainable and livable such as green roofs, green industries, green spaces, green jobs, green banking, etc. In recent years, the government of Bangladesh has taken other initiatives besides the United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs): Vision 2021, various development plans to promote local economy, support connectivity and ensure security. The government is additionally applying sustainable solutions to departments and administrations to improve the living standards of residents and improve transportation routes and alternatives to reduce traffic congestion and guarantee a green city. The main objective of this research is to develop sustainable strategies to ensure green city development. Therefore, the results of this research will help to formulate better policies and strategies to ensure green urban development in Bangladesh.
