Abstract

Urban agriculture constitutes substantial amount of attention in the recent literature and discourses. This article assesses the significance of urban agriculture in the context of globalizing India, a rapidly developing country in the world. In India during the era of globalization, the practice of urban farming seems to provide a realistic and pragmatic solution to problems of food insecurity, livelihood crisis, unemployment and growing poverty and hunger, environmental unsustainability. Besides, commercial farming through urban agriculture can enhance Indian cash crop export.
