Abstract

Different sizes of commercial broiler farms are in operation all over Bangladesh but its growth is not sustainable. Problems of stakeholders of broiler industry are examined from the perspective of supply chain. The results indicate that input suppliers do not face serious constraints in operating their business. But the broiler farmers face numerous problems in all the areas of input, farming and marketing of produce. Farm owners are passive both in input and output markets. Prices of inputs like day old chick, feed and drugs are rising while broiler price shows wide fluctuations and does not keep pace with the input price. Quality control and safety standards are yet to be established for both inputs and broiler. Opportunities for the improvement of broiler supply chain are examined in the field of broiler farmer organization, processing facilities, sales at retail market, research requirement, and government intervention. Some measures are suggested.
