Abstract

Paddy is an important staple food crop cultivated in India. Tamil Nadu is one of the leading States contributing major share in India's paddy cultivation. The main objective of the study is to identify the problems faced by the paddy growers in cultivation of paddy in Erode District. Sample size for the present study is taken as 200. Data were analysed with the help of Garrett's ranking technique. The study reveals that shortage of labour and high wage rates are the two major problems faced by the farmers currently in the study area. It is suggested that the Government should make proper plan to use the NREGS workers registered so far to agricultural works (farm fields) which could definitely reduce the major twin problems.
