Abstract

In general, there are two available methods of paddy cultivation i.e. direct seeding and transplanting. Investigations have been made to evaluate the economics of direct seeding versus transplanting of paddy cultivation in Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu. It reveals that transplantation is economically feasible as compared to the direct seeding method. As per the perception of the farmers, the direct seeding method is not an apt method because it leads to more infestation of pest and weeds and thereby higher cost. The study suggests that efforts should be made to concentrate on better infrastructure especially in case of irrigation so that the farmers can switch over to transplantation method to obtain higher yield.
