Abstract

Primary Education is the important and basic stage of any system of education. Despite of many improvements and achievements at primary level, Pakistani Government is still facing many challenges in this regard. As a nation we could not meet the target of 100% literacy at primary level. There are many factors responsible for this situation, in which lack of schools and physical facilities as well as scarcity of teachers are important. Related literature and official figures revealed that numbers of trained teachers are greater than un-trained teachers. But it is a fact that trained teachers does not implement their trainings in real classroom situation, they adopt traditional teaching learning methodologies and techniques which create uninteresting and lethargic classroom environment. This situation directly effects on the interest, motivation and learning of the students. In result the drop out rate increase at this level. The only way to over come this problem is to use interactive teaching learning methodologies which are the best method to motivate students toward learning and develop their confidence with critical thinking. Therefore the aim of writing this article is to analyze the present status of child education at primary level. It also determines the teaching approaches used by teachers in classrooms and their concerned problems. In this descriptive survey type study the data was collected by survey questionnaire (interview schedule) and classroom observations. The data was treated statistically. The findings were made on the bases of results, and suggestions were given for the improvement of child education program at primary level in the country.
