The dropouts of children in elementary schools particularly the girls have always been a national concern. The focus so far has largely been laid on the dropout of girls studying in the schools located in rural and remote areas. Many have failed to realize that the issue of dropout is also a concern among the girls studying in urban schools especially those attending the Municipal Corporation schools. In the present study an attempt was made to study the causes for girls dropout in Municipal Corporation Schools located in Pune city. The study revealed that the dropout rate of girls studying in these schools varied from 5.64 to 11.43 percent and the reasons for dropout were largely due to issues related to health, family and school.
