Abstract

A teacher leaves deep impression over the mind of students. His personality, attitude, motivation level, qualification, knowledge of the subject and communication skill lay a powerful impact on the mental, social and educational development of the students. Classroom teaching is one of the factors which affect the learning-outcomes to a great extent. Pre-planned content presentation welded with suitable teaching-learning materials and appropriate teaching method, can convert the learning experience into a joyful activity. Against this background, the present study examines the teaching-learning practices in the primary schools of Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh. In this study teaching-learning practices have been divided into three parts i.e., preparation of lesson-plan, use of teaching-learning materials and preference of teachers towards different teaching methods. The first part of lesson plan making answer the question whether teachers plan their activities and follow the rules of lesson-plan making or not. Second part reflects the understanding of teachers towards the appropriate use of teaching aids. Third part is related to selection of teaching methods according to demand of the subject and topic. Which method is the most preferred method of teachers, has been evaluated in this part. Interview schedule was used to gather data. The paper also highlights some recommendation for the future betterment.
