Constructivism is not a specific pedagogy, it is an educational theory inspired by constructivists and experiential learning ideas given by Piaget. In past centuries, constructivist ideas were not widely valued due to the perception the children's play was seen as aimless and of little importance. Today constructivism influence the classroom strategy, teacher provides environment (constructive) to learn and reflect their own ideas and experiences in an innovative way. Learner is the part and parcel of the society. He has to interact within his social environment. Therefore, socialization and social learning is must to cope with the environment and getting along with others in an effective manner. This gives rise to the concept of Social Constructivism that views each learner as a unique individual with unique needs and background. Social constructivism encourages the learner to arrive at his/her version of the truth, influenced by his/her background, culture and embedded world view. From the social constructivist view point, it is thus important to take into account the background and culture of the learner throughout the learning process, as this background also helps to shape the knowledge and truth that the learner creates, discovers and attains in the learning process (Wertsch 1997). The article will also throw light on the role of the teacher as a facilitator and good practitioner in the classroom and not a mere teacher. (Bautrsfeld 1995). A good facilitator promotes active learning/self learning which in itself is a dramatic change that has come into the classroom just because of the constructivist approach which teachers’ are adopting in the classroom to make the entire teaching leaning process enriching in the form of adopting innovative pedagogical approaches such as dialogue mode, collaborative learning/co-operative learning approach, focused group discussion and many such practices. The article will discuss the above social-constructivism based classroom experiences of teachers which will result in interesting and effective teaching-learning process but this can be achieved by assuming multiple roles, such as a consultant and a coach.
