Quality education at any level i.e. Elementary, Secondary & Higher Education depends on a lot of components. Teacher is an important resource to make teaching – learning process successful. So it is said the own personality, conduct, behavior, deeds and competencies of teacher are the best pedagogy to modify, purify & mould the personality of the pupils. The present paper attempts to focus on provisions of teacher training (Pre Service, induction and in services training), recruitment policies and causes of teacher absenteeism in elementary and secondary schools of Odisha and its remedies. The paper appeals to introduce four years integrated teacher training courses, to establish special teacher training university for better development of both personal and professional competencies of our teachers in Odisha. Despite, the recruitment of teachers on contractual and consolidated pay may be stopped and appointment on regular basis may be made. So the talented students may opt to the profession. Similarly to check teacher absenteeism and developing enthusiasm among teachers appropriate posting and transfer policy may be legislated, corrupt educational authorities may be punished, adequate supervisory staff may be appointed and infrastructural development should be made in each school. At last, not least, for providing better training to the student teachers, competent and sufficient lecturers as per the requirement of training institutes may be appointed on regular basis and accountability may be fixed for them. Besides, training institutes should be made techno based or with conducive environment for the training, learning and research.
