Abstract

The present study was conducted to compare the effect of constructivist approach and traditional approach on achievement in mathematics. Purposive sampling was used to select the sample of 32 students from one school of Kurukshetra city of Haryana affiliated to C.B.S.E.. The sample was divided into two groups. The control group was taught by traditional approach and the experimental group was taught by constructivist approach. Achievement in mathematics was measured by the test developed by the investigator. Instructional material was prepared by the investigator herself based on both approaches. In order to study the comparison between constructivist approach and traditional approach on achievement in mathematics investigator selected some topics from the syllabus of N.C.E.R.T. eighth grade mathematics. Mann's Whitney test was used to analyse the data. It shows the significant difference between achievement scores of experimental and control groups. The result of the study indicates significant effectiveness of constructivist approach than traditional approach on achievement in mathematics.
