Abstract

On the basis of a study conducted in two schools in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the paper tries to argue that gender equality in access to education does not necessarily mean gender sensitivity in education. Though Sri Lanka has achieved higher level of gender parity in school education, gender stereotypes in the educational practices is highly prevalent.
