Abstract

College students not only have to cope with the developmental challenges unique to adolescence but also need to cope with the demanding, specialized academic load. If valuable time is lost in anxiety and stress then it is going to have an adverse impact. High academic pressures coupled with other stressors with which the students are not able to cope lead to suicides. Committing suicides by adolescents not only indicates a major loss to the family but a shame to the society and nation at large. Awareness of factors that contribute to the negative states and feelings of the adolescents can help in developing and implementing preventive measures at all levels. Researchers focused on identifying such factors in their studies. This article presents research on the impact of such crucial areas with special reference to academic factors and stress in students of higher education in India.
