Abstract

In-situ growth of S. polyrhiza exhibited senescence and rejuvenation cycles in all the selected habitats, and maximum frond biomass (53 g/m2) occurred in April (water temperature 26°C). For frond culture, the best concentration of inorganic fertilizer in borewell water was N: P: K:: 10 mg: 2 mg: 2 mg/l, whereas 2 g/l sucrose was the best organic fertilizer. Further, the fronds displayed considerable nutrient removal efficiency from the wastewater.
