Abstract

Amenities in the rural areas are mandatory requirements for rural dwellers to sustain themselves on earth. But the availability of rural amenities in villages of the southern part of West Bengal is highly unequal. Consequently, the development scenario of amenities in the countryside of southern West Bengal in India is highly unequal. The present study aims to measure the inequalities in rural amenities services in the geographical area. Education, medical, drinking water, agricultural credit societies, pucca village road considered as variables, and 2011 census data deliberated for coming to the decisions. We have also calculated the Average Percentage (AP) and Standard score to measuring the spatial variation in amenities development. Many villages in the area have a lacuna of availability of amenities services and backwardness in amenities development is the real picture. Special planning and micro-level planning are needed to solve the inequalities in amenities services. The work may be implemented to measuring the inequalities in amenities services in any part of the north-eastern state of India as well as south-east Asian nations, and to practice equality in rural development work in future.
