Jhum and Broom cultivation in Saipum village, Mizoram: A comparative study

The primitive cultivation ‘Jhum’ and other livelihood activities have major indirect impact on global warming at regional and global level. The main aim of the present study is to examine the trend of broom production at Saipum village in Mizoram. It also seeks to find out the impact of New Land Use Policy (NLUP) on broom production and the profitability of broom cultivation. Z-score standardized techniques, descriptive statistics by simple arithmetic mean and per centile have been used to analyzed data. The study found out that broom cultivation is more profitable than Jhuming but increasing production of broom has little impact on NLUP beneficiaries.
