Abstract

The wave of Globalization has touched every individual across the globe in a very deep way. But global communication and widespread use of internet has exposed us to enormous threats as well, one of the most devastating menaces would be cyber-terrorism. Crucial networks and infrastructures such as banking industry, military and civilian defense networks, power plants, air traffic control centers etc. are subjected as the major targets of cyber terrorist attacks. The present study tries to comprehend the concept and understanding of Cyber Terrorism as a ‘new language of war ’.

One of the most devastating cyber terrorism attacks that the world witnessed was the 9/11 attack in USA, which shook the cyber security protocols of the entire world. Further in India, the 26/11 attack in Mumbai, not only engulfed hundreds of innocent lives but also made us realize the incapacities of our legal structure. In this research the author makes an attempt to analyze the components of cyber terrorism in both the 9/11 attack in USA and 26/11 attack in Mumbai and draws a comparison as to how far these two nations have succeeded to make legislative changes after these attacks. The paper also addresses the various legal provisions which are there in the India and analyzes the insufficiencies of these statutes to prosecute cases of cyber terrorism.
