Abstract

Technology in education allows students to learn more in less time and allows schools to focus on global learning environment. However, as change happens, the risk becomes an integral part of it. Thus, this paper promotes an IT Risk Management Scheme to Higher Educational Institution to explore the different risks that the teachers are facing in teaching and learning. A quantitative approach was used and there were fifty-three (53) teachers responded to the survey questionnaire on the encountered risks in integrating technology in the classroom. The results were analyzed through descriptive research methods such as frequency percentage, mean, and rank, and a 3-point Likert scale was used in determining the risk level. Results showed that 85% of the instructors identified the malware as a high risk encountered in integrating technology in the teaching-learning process. Some of the IT risks encountered include technical hardware failure, lack of internet connection, software failure, corruption of data, misuse of devices, and human error. On the other hand, mitigation identified were as follows: bringing their pocket wi-fi (according to 55% of the respondents) backing up data to avoid data loss, looking towards the five-year development plan, installing a quality anti-virus, planning and procuring ahead of time to avoid delay, allowing teachers and students to borrow technologies that are available in school and asking for technical support if something needed to troubleshoot. Since technology integration in HEI has become an important aspect of successful teaching, it is necessary to adapt the IT risk management scheme, that is, to identify, evaluate, monitor, and mitigate risks.
