Major challenges of urban tourism development in Georgia

Abstract

The main goal of tourism development is to offer political, economic, cultural, ecological, and intellectual benefits to the people. Tourism is an important source of income for the city, although economic growth is accompanied by new challenges. Unplanned development can prove to be devastating for a city destination.

The article discusses the problems of urban tourism on the example of the Georgian seaside resort city - Batumi; Spatial distribution of tourist flows and destinations left behind are analyzed; Priorities of the green economy sector, sustainable, responsible tourism are also studied; Strategies and approaches of different countries to overcome the challenges of regional tourism.

The paper, based on a critical understanding of the current situation and the generalization of international experience, identifies the obstacles to the development of urban tourism and develops recommendations to prevent them and reduce their negative impact in the future.
