Abstract

At any point of time the performance evaluation of a manufacturing system plays a crucial rule for economic appraisals and system reorganization. In this paper, the notion of an integrated manufacturing performance measure for evaluation and selection of a manufacturing system has been proposed with flexibility and related issues as one of the main focus. This paper also demonstrates the use of the derived integrated manufacturing performance measure through different manufacturing situations. In the first case, the impact of addition of a new facility on a manufacturing system was investigated. In the second situation, current and past performance of a manufacturing system was compared. Finally, in the third case, evaluation of system performance has carried out when there are certain variations in the product design.
