Emotional intelligence refers to an individual's ability to identify, process and regulate emotions. Emotional intelligence affects both work related outcome and work behaviors, including teamwork, talent development, job satisfaction and organisational commitment. Moreover, it helps individuals to adapt to the situation by enhancing the ability to cope effectively with work-related demands. The aim of the present research is to study the relationship between emotional intelligence and occupational stress in teachers of public and private educational institutions in India. Survey method was used to collect data from 500 teachers. The findings of the study was that the aspects of emotional intelligence are plays a significant role in managing the emotions at work and thus helps in building an adaptive approach to the demanding situations on job. The individual's ability to understand one's emotions, strengths and weaknesses can reduce the occupational stress. There was found to be significant impact of relationship management on occupational stress. However there was no significant relationship between occupational stress awareness.
