Innovative teaching practices for preventing students’ absenteeism

Abstract

Absenteeism and short attendance of students is one of the major problems in the basic shiksha parishadiya primary and upper primary schools run by Uttar Pradesh state government. Although many schemes has been implemented by government like mid-day meal, scholarship, free dress and books distribution to promote enrolment and stagnation of students in parishadiya vidyalaya. But, these schemes are not much successful to ensure regular presence of students in the schools. Although there are many factors behind the absenteeism and irregular attendance of students, but monotonous teaching practices is one important factor that distracts the children interest from the classroom teaching and consequently absenteeism occurs. In the present article attempt is made to locate the factors in the traditional teaching practices followed in classroom that cause absenteeism of students. It also discuss about some innovative teaching practices by taking some examples which can enhances students attendance in the parishadiya vidyalaya.
