The National Literacy Mission (NLM) was subsequently launched on 5th May 1988 to cover ten crore illiterate People in the age group of 15–35 years by the end of 1997 and also to include children in the age group 9–14 years, where needed. The present paper themed on the issues of literacy programme in present scenario of india and also points out the future challenges.
