Abstract

Values have always been considered important in human life and are the result of our experiences, cultural and environmental influences. The advent of globalization and technological advances has led to a major change in lifestyles and subsequently led to changes in the value pattern of students. The present investigation examined the value preferences prevailing among the Higher Secondary students, their parents and teachers, and the extent of influence of home and school on these student's value preferences. The study findings revealed that the Higher Secondary students, parents, and teachers differ significantly in five values: economic, aesthetic, social, political, and religious values. Parents were found to have a positive influence on a student's theoretic and religious values while teachers have a negative influence on a student's social values.
