Abstract

National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 provides a much-needed framework for transforming Indian education system. Based on sound principles, NEP 2020 is an attempt at disrupting India's existing education system with bold and generational reforms aimed at bridging the skill, competency, perspective and plus domain knowledge gap of Indian youth. The world of work is changing rapidly. So is the world of business, technology, and jobs. Education must, therefore, walk towards a new landscape. It must shape this horizon and create professionals who will not only be among the best in the world but also best for the world. India will be the world's largest work force provider a few years down the road. A conscientious work force which can contribute to nation-building is essential. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), will accordingly have to, for their students, engage into: (i) teaching that inculcates critical thinking and problem solving; (ii) skill and competency development; (iii) positive attitude formation; (iv) providing an experience that leads to all round development; (v) developing a culture that is strongly rooted in interdisciplinarity; (vii) learning by building, not just doing; and (vii) research that leads to innovation and enhancement of real-life applications. The emphasis must be on creating individuals who make informed decisions in circumstances that are dynamic and rapidly changing. A logical thinker understands the relations between concepts and can create fact-based arguments and recognizing realities. Of the various aspects the NEP 2020 advocates to address this agenda, (i) curriculum adaptation in line with global best practices with emphasis on successful training on employabilityenhancing skills; (ii) the strategic use of technology to improve teaching and learning processes through digital transformation: and (iii) capacity building of faculty, are the three aspects that this article to illustrate the possibility of working on by Higher Education Institutions in their teaching-learning processes.
