Abstract

STEM courses significantly influence the country’s economic progress. It has been observed that girls outperform boys in STEM in schools, but do not pursue STEM careers. Hence, a wide gender gap in STEM education at higher levels and related careers can be observed. Therefore, a more thorough examination of the present issues and developments in STEM education and the field is required. This study attempts to provide a broader understanding of the gender gap in STEM.

A quick overview of STEM and its influence on the nation’s economic development will be provided in the first section of the article. Then, there is a discussion about bridging the gender gap in STEM education and careers globally and in India in particular. Secondly, the paper will outline some reasons for low women’s enrolment in STEM. Finally, the paper will offer recommendations to enhance women’s enrolment in STEM majors, followed by a conclusion.
