The National Education Policy 2020 represents a transformative moment in Indian higher education by positioning the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) at the center of curriculum reform and institutional development. This research study examines the systematic integration of IKS into higher education institutions, analyzing historical evolution, implementation mechanisms, opportunities and challenges. Through mixed-methods research encompassing document analysis, institutional surveys and stakeholder interviews, the study evaluates the current state of IKS integration and proposes evidence-based strategies for successful implementation. Findings reveal significant progress in establishing institutional frameworks, yet identify persistent challenges in faculty capacity, resource allocation and attitudinal barriers. The research demonstrates that successful IKS integration requires systemic transformation beyond superficial additions, demanding collaborative effort among stakeholders, adequate resource commitment and balanced harmonization of traditional wisdom with contemporary educational imperatives. This study contributes to the discourse on knowledge decolonization and offers practical recommendations for policymakers, administrators and educators engaged in revitalizing India’s intellectual heritage within modern educational frameworks.
