This study explores the effect of parenting style on the adjustment of a single child. It also provides a framework for examining the impact of parenting on the overall development of a single child. According to Baumrind’s theory, the family environment plays a very important role in the socialization of a single child. The first school of a child is the family, and the first teacher is the mother. Both have a pivotal role in the life of a single child. Parents’ support, guidance, rules, and values nurture the confidence level, social ability and self-esteem of a single child. A secure, healthy and positive relationship creates a strong bond between a single child and parent. It boosts the level of confidence in a single child for facing the real-life situation of society. Parenting style beautifully shapes the social world of a single child. It also develops a feeling of exploring the world and creates a sense of belongingness. Research proves that the authoritative parenting style is the most beneficial style for the social development of a single child. It also fosters a feeling of safety, and a single child feels independent with the supportive guidance of parents.
