Abstract

Mid day meal scheme MDMS and supplementary nutrition programme (SNP) under ICDS are the largest school feeding programmes in India. These programmes boost UEE; improve enrolment, retention and attendance in aanganwadis and primary schools. But regular complaints are found under these programmes, so a controversy arises, the government should mandate cooked food or prepackaged food under MDMS and SNP to minimize the problem of ill health of children. This article suggests ways to improve the conditions of mid day meal and SNP for the betterment of children health.
