Psycho-Educational Approach of Alcohol and Substance Prevention Among Adolescents

Abstract

The growing phenomenon of alcohol and drugs among adolescents is dangerous for the society. In recent years, there is growing trends of alcohol and drugs abuse among the students and teenagers. Alcohol and substance involvement is causing a powerful negative impact on teen's academic and physical growth and development. This phenomenon is not only with the urbanites, but the rural adolescences are in much danger. There are some state government's responses to this pathetic issue by banning alcohol, but it seems that it is not an appropriate way to deal with the growing phenomena of alcohol and drugs. The easy availability of homemade liquor and addictive substances made the issue worse. This current paper aims to explore and explain the possibilities of the use of psychoeducational approach of addressing false belief, expectancy, curiosity related to alcohol and drugs among adolescents and prevention of their involvement in the thrilling notion of alcohol and drugs. The author of this paper is doing his Ph. D. level research with an experimental design to validate the effectiveness of this Psychosocial educational approach (intervention) on alcohol and substances related expectancy challenges and prevention.
