Abstract

A "cross functional project" is a challenge for any corporate. One has to be vigilant from so-called cross functional team members and be very careful and politically aware in communications. The term ‘team ’is a misnomer there. In all the developmental methods (lean, agile, kanban, waterfall etc.) cross-functional teams are the fundamental weak point. Inefficiency of these methods doesn't let us derive the full execution benefits of such methods. The benefit of the development method itself goes down despite the root problem was in the team dynamics. Solver team is a self-sufficient set of people who given a task are accountable to solve a defined problem or carry a project to its end. Together they are accountable for the result. It is a mindset (not structural) evolution over typical cross-functional teams. Fundamental idea here is to put all the people across various teams that are stakeholders in the project directly or indirectly together in the same boat. They sail and sink together. Everyone in the team has a say and own all decisions and execution together. All milestones and stages together as a team. Contrast this with the older model, where an individual alone owned the stage and everyone else was his client finding faults in his work. Solver Teams model is generic and can be applied anywhere when more than one teams needs to communicate together for any project (not just software development). Benefits of Solver team model are fast, well oiled and friction free project execution and completion.
