This paper inspects and evaluates the optimum tilt angle in order to maximize the Global solar radiation by utilizing the optimum tilt angle for an inclined solar surface in India. Ten different cities of India situated at totally different geographical locations and with a wide variation of latitudes are taken into consideration. The tilt angle is varied from 0° to 90° in intervals of 10°. It was observed that the optimum tilt angle varies from 0° in summer months (Apr-Sep) with the maximum tilt angle of 50° required in the winter season (Nov-Feb). Thus tilt angle keeps on varying and it is required in the winter season whereas it has no significance for the summer months. During the past few decades, various studies related to optimizing global solar radiation for the tilted surface had been published. Isotropic and anisotropic models are used to estimate the hourly global solar radiations based on the data available for ten cities. While studying the optimum angle for tilted surface direct global radiation and diffuse radiation are taken into account as per the available data. The hourly average solar irradiation is calculated for isotropic and anisotropic models at different combinations of tilt angle and the orientation angle for these cities are tabulated and graphed. After studying these models it came to notice that for the summer seasons (Apr-Sep) optimum tilt angle is 0° and for the winter season the optimum tilt angle is near 50°. The annual tilt angle for New Delhi is near 40°.
