Software cost estimation based on effort, cost and schedule using different layers

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to calculate the cost estimation using project attributes that are effort, cost, schedule etc. The proposed work consists of different layers. These metrics are FP (function point), LOC (line of code), PM (person months). In this paper we use Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), software engineering metric, COCOMO for estimating the schedule and project completion time. Functional requirements describe what the system should do. Non-functional requirements describe how the system works. Requirements directly associated with the Non Functional Requirements (NFR) along with Functional Requirements (FR). Requirements associated with Functional Requirements (FR) and minor impact of the Non Functional Requirements (NFR) and Value Adjustment Factor (VAF). Based on these approaches we have categories the do requirements and collected the different software developed projects from different streams, we evaluated the Function Point and match with the actual effort based on Project Kickoff meeting started and the project closure submitted. The data showed that the estimation of the mathematical algorithms implemented values is on a par in accuracy, while there is still significant room for improvement in order to better address the prediction challenges faced in practice.
